BIO: Dr. Dimitrios Vlachakis (MSc, MPhil, PhD, MGS, FGS, MRSC, MRSB, MRSMed) is Professor of Genetics at the Laboratory of Genetics of the Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Biology and Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens with PhD and postdoctoral studies in Greece, Wales and the United States in Drug Design, Medicinal Chemistry and Precision Medicine for human diseases. He is Research Director at the Genetics & Medical Genetics Unit at the University Research Institute of Maternal-Child Health and Precision Medicine at the Medical School of Athens, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Dr. Vlachakis was recently elected Honorary Professor in Genetics & Medical AI at the Centre for Craniofacial and Regenerative Biology, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King's College London, UK. Finally, Dr. Vlachakis is Vice President of the Committee for the Evaluation and Reimbursement of Medicines for Human Use (HTA, Health Technology Assessment) at the National Organization for Medicines - EOF, at the Ministry of Health and has been appointed as Ass. National Representative in the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Network of the European Union.
He has published more than 200 original research papers in prestigious international scientific journals (e.g. aaas science, cell press, npg, jem). He has coordinated over 15 national and international funded research projects in personalized medicine and the design and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic protocols. Finally, he has supervised and trained a number of students from undergraduate to doctoral and post-doctoral levels, with many of his students already excelling in important scientific positions in Greece and abroad.
